Garden Concepts, Inc.

Established 1989

Now in our fifteenth year in business in Glenview, Illinois, our offices are located at 1926 Waukegan Road. Garden Concepts is small enough that each project gets the attention it deserves, and big enough to handle the largest of residential projects. Our clients respect the fact that we are accessible, accountable and reliable.

Specializing in high quality, custom residential landscape design we have experience with everything from swimming pools, outdoor lighting, patios, decks and driveways to planting and irrigation. All work is customized to the individual with personal attention to every detail. Although we are design-build, we are "design-driven." We do some design-only work, but most of our clients choose to have us do the installation as well. Our diverse network of competent subcontractors allows us the flexibility to handle many different elements of the landscape, so you can be sure that an expert is working on each of the interrelated parts. It also allows us to work on projects out of our immediate geographic area.

Here is a brief introduction to our team:

Timothy N. Thoelecke Jr.

President

Founder of Garden Concepts (1989), Tim has been designing and installing high-end custom residential landscapes for more than 13 years. A member of the Garden Writers Association (GWA), his writing has appeared in Landscape Architect and Specifier News, Pool & Spa News, American Nurseryman and Crain's Chicago Business. He has also lectured at such places as the Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden and at industry conferences.

A past-president and certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), Tim is also a certified arborist and a full member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and currently serves on the board of the Landscape Design Association. Recently hired to provide text for an upcoming landscape book by This Old House, Tim has also consulted or provided illustrations or text for five Sunset Books publications, including Garden and Patio Living Spaces (1999), Entryways (1998), Water Gardens (1997), The Complete Deck Book (1996), and Making the Most of Your Own Backyard (1996). He has been quoted or featured in various other publications as well.

Barb Lothian

Vice President--Administration

Since 1995, Barb has run the office for Garden Concepts. Usually a client's first contact with us, Barb handles all of the day-to-day operations of the business, including bookkeeping, payroll, contracts, invoicing, material takeoffs, permit applications, and more.

If you need to know what is going on with a particular project, she is the one to ask.
