Owner of Garden Concepts, Inc. in Glenview, IL, Tim Thoelecke has been designing and installing high-end custom residential landscapes for more than 15 years. With a degree in Landscape Design from Duke University, he is also a graduate of the Inchbald School of Design in London. Garden Concepts' award-winning designs have been featured in a number of publications, including Chicagoland Gardening, Landscape Architect and Specifier News, Pool & Spa News, American Nurseryman, and Today's Homeowner. He has also lectured at such places as the Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden and at industry conferences. A past-president and certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (www.apld.org), Tim is also a certified arborist and a full member of ASLA. Garden Concepts' work has won awards from the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association, the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, the Perennial Plant Association and the Illinois Chapter of ASLA. Recently, Tim contributed to This Old House Complete Landscaping, the first landscape book produced by the respected This Old House team. Tim has also consulted or provided illustrations or text for five Sunset Books publications, including Garden and Patio Living Spaces (1999), Entryways (1998), Water Gardens (1997), The Complete Deck Book (1996), Making the Most of Your Own Backyard (1996). In 2002, Tim accepted the Harry Schuster Service Award from APLD. Currently, Tim serves on the board of the Landscape Design Association and as president of the newly-formed Illinois Regional Chapter of APLD.
